Made Outside: Women’s Summer Workshops @ GroWild

We’re inviting a small number of local creators and social influencers to join us for the launch of Made Outside — a new series of creative workshops for women in the GroWild woodland. These are practical, hands-on sessions built around traditional skills, natural materials and outdoor making, including botanical printing, indigo dyeing and willow weaving. Each workshop is designed to feel relaxed, beautiful and genuinely useful, with most of the time spent making something to take home. Set within our woodland site in Norwich, the sessions bring together expert tutors, small groups, good coffee, homemade bakes and a calm, creative outdoor setting. We’d love to welcome you to selected sessions so you can experience the workshops first-hand and share the story of Made Outside with your audience.

Please contact Beth to book a space.

The Printed Leaf Workshop

5th July, 10am - 1pm

Woodland leaves, natural inks and botanical printing in the GroWild woodland.

Spend a morning gathering leaves, exploring natural pigments and creating your own collection of botanical prints using simple, traditional printing techniques.

Set within the woodland that provides many of the materials, this is a hands-on workshop with most of the morning spent experimenting, printing and making. You’ll explore the shapes, marks, patterns and textures created by different leaves and foliage, building a series of prints as you go.

Working alongside a small group of women, you’ll be guided through the process by Rachel Burchell, a practising artist whose work explores natural materials, pigments and botanical processes. Rachel will share examples, techniques and guidance throughout the session, supporting you to experiment and create your own finished pieces.

The workshop runs from 10am–1pm and includes refreshments and homemade bakes. Please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and woodland ground.

All materials are provided.

The Indigo Dye Workshop

26th July, 10am - 5pm

Natural indigo, folded fabric and traditional resist dyeing in the GroWild woodland.

Spend a day exploring indigo dyeing and Shibori-inspired resist techniques, creating your own patterned scarf or tote bag to take home.

Set within the woodland, this is a hands-on workshop with most of the day spent folding, clamping, dyeing and experimenting. You’ll learn how folds, clamps and resist techniques can be used to create striking patterns with natural indigo dye, with each fold and placement influencing the final result.

Working alongside a small group of women, you’ll be guided through the process by Sevanti Roy, a textile designer and printmaker whose work centres around indigo dyeing, block printing and traditional textile techniques. Sevanti will introduce the materials, techniques and processes before supporting you through each stage of the workshop.

The workshop takes place outdoors within the GroWild woodland. Tea, coffee and refreshments are provided throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch and dress appropriately for outdoor working and dye processes.

All materials are provided.

The Willow Weaving Workshop

9th August 10am - 15pm

Natural willow, traditional basketry techniques and outdoor making in the GroWild woodland.

Spend a morning learning how to weave your own garden bird feeder using natural willow and traditional basketry techniques.

Set within the woodland, this is a hands-on workshop with most of the morning spent weaving, shaping and making. You’ll learn how to work with willow, exploring how to bend, secure and build the structure as your bird feeder begins to take form.

Working alongside a small group of women, you’ll be guided through the process by The Coddiwomplers, experienced traditional crafts practitioners specialising in willow weaving, green woodworking and heritage woodland skills. They’ll introduce the materials, tools and techniques before supporting you through each stage of the workshop.

The workshop takes place outdoors within the GroWild woodland and runs from 9.45am–1pm. Tea, coffee, homemade bakes and a short break by the fire are included.

Please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and woodland ground.

All materials are provided.
