Role: Kickstarter (Outdoor Playworker)

Location: GroWild Kindergarten, Unit 3 Sapphire House, Roundtree Way, Sprowston, Norwich, Norfolk, NR7 8SQ.

Who are we? We are a Forest School setting based in 2.2 acres of woodland in Norwich. We offer an exciting opportunity for kids to play, explore, make, climb, build and learn new skills in a woodland environment. The activities we offer are both adventurous and educational, enabling children to become immersed in their experiences, take risks, learn new skills, make life-long friendships and connect with the natural environment. 

Who are we looking for? A unique opportunity for a ‘Forest School’ playworker/assistant to work in an outdoor woodland environment with 2-5 year olds. Applicants will gain experience in working with children aged 2-5 years in an outdoor nursery environment, following the forest school ethos and developing their knowledge of child development. Working with a dedicated team, you will learn the skills you need to progress your career further in an early years setting. Experience not essential.

Hours: 25 hrs per week (Mon-Thur)

Salary: National Minimum Wage. The successful candidate will be given opportunities to further their knowledge in Early Years and Forest School.

Job Summary: 

A unique opportunity for a ‘Forest School’ playworker/assistant to work in an outdoor woodland environment with 2-5 year olds. 

Assisting the staff team with everyday duties including setting up of the site, helping with activities, supporting children to play safely in the space and undertaking duties such as cleaning, tidying, basic admin tasks and supporting the team for a successful provision.

Applicants will gain experience in working with children aged 2-5 years in an outdoor nursery environment, following the forest school ethos and developing their knowledge of child development.

You will also gain experience in the skills needed in a forest school environment including an introduction to fire, tools and nature ID.

Working with a dedicated team, you will learn the skills you need to progress your career further in an early years setting. 

Experience not required. Further training provided.

Essential Person Specification Skills and Understanding: 

  • Applicants must have an interest to learn about child development in an outdoor setting. We are looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors and who is prepared to play!

  • Driving license/access to transport may be useful. Please see public transport links before applying.

Support Available:

Support available to the participant will be; help with basic ‘on the job’ skills such as attendance, timekeeping and teamwork, working as part of a team to ensure admin is completed and daily business tasks completed. 

We are also able to offer 1:1 sessions monthly in the form of a ‘mentor’ to ensure support. Senior staff are on hand daily to provide support and feedback. 

Training opportunities will include safeguarding, first aid and other relevant courses where applicable including play theory, child development and forest school.
